Frequently Asked Questions

This page is structured around the questions we most often receive before specification, ordering, and installation. It is especially intended to clarify the difference between our minimal architectural pendants and more conventional canopy-based consumer lamps.

1. Product families and general positioning

The current collection includes pendants, wall & ceiling versions, floor/table variants, and dedicated ceiling accessories. Many pendant models are defined by textile cords, E27 or G9 sockets, mouth-blown glass, and in several cases additional wire support.

Which products are most relevant for architectural and retail lighting projects?

The pendant collection is the primary focus for specification questions. On the current site this includes families such as Modeco, Barocco, Malus, Mellino, Nautico, Breeze, Spot, Bright Sprout, Ripple, and related variants, while accessories such as Ceiling Cup Ø90, Ceiling X 5, and Ceiling Canopy - Cylinder support certain installation scenarios.

Are all products installed in the same way?

No. Nordic Tales has a mix of product types. Some are pendants with textile cords, some include steel wire support, some are wall & ceiling products, and some are accessories intended to solve ceiling or multi-drop situations. Installation should therefore be considered product-specific rather than assumed to be universal.

Why do installation questions come up so often?

Because several Nordic Tales pendants are deliberately minimal and architectural in expression. They can look simpler than they are to integrate in a real-world ceiling, especially when compared with conventional decorative lamps that hide all connections inside a standard canopy.

2. Ceiling connection and installation logic

The main source of confusion is usually not the lamp itself, but where the electrical connection happens and how the ceiling entry is visually resolved.

Where is the electrical connection made?

For the minimal pendant types, the connection is typically made in the ceiling junction point, recess, or another prepared building condition — not necessarily hidden inside a large decorative canopy. This is the key distinction that should be understood early in the project.

Can the electrical connection always be hidden inside the supplied ceiling part?

Not always. That depends on the specific lamp and the ceiling condition. In many real-world projects the clean result depends on a prepared ceiling box, recess, or a supplementary cover solution rather than on the lamp alone.

Is this more suited to architectural projects than simple retail plug-and-play installs?

In several cases, yes. The recurring customer questions suggest that some pendants are best understood as architectural lighting objects with a minimal ceiling expression, rather than as conventional consumer lamps with a one-size-fits-all canopy.

What should we do if the ceiling opening is messy or oversized?

Plan for a secondary cover strategy. Depending on the project, that can mean a dedicated canopy, a custom plate, or another neat cover element that allows the cable to exit cleanly while masking imperfect drilling or an oversized recess.

A useful rule of thumb is to treat the lamp, the ceiling condition, and the electrical connection as a coordinated system. The clean final result often depends just as much on the site preparation as on the product itself.

3. Canopies, hooks, and accessory questions

Nordic Tales currently shows dedicated accessories such as Ceiling Cup Ø90, Ceiling X 5, and Ceiling Canopy - Cylinder. These should be understood as optional problem-solvers for specific situations, not as universal defaults for every lamp.

Is a canopy included by default with every pendant?

No. A canopy should not be assumed unless the product description explicitly confirms it. The current accessories section indicates that ceiling accessories are treated as separate products within the system.

When is Ceiling Canopy - Cylinder relevant?

It is relevant when you need a more conventional or cleaner ceiling resolution for an individual lamp, especially in cases where the building condition does not support the intended minimal installation expression on its own.

When is Ceiling X 5 relevant?

Ceiling X 5 is intended for a maximum of five lamps and is relevant when multiple pendants should be coordinated from one system point. It should be selected for multi-drop composition logic, not as a substitute for every single-lamp ceiling issue.

Are hooks included?

Not necessarily. Based on the installation questions received, a standard hook or similar mounting part may need to be sourced locally depending on ceiling type and project conditions.

4. Project planning questions

The right installation answer depends on whether the project is new-build, renovation, hospitality, residential, or retail.

What information should an architect, electrician, or retailer provide before asking for installation support?

Please provide the product name, ceiling type, whether the ceiling is concrete, plasterboard, steel panel, or suspended construction, whether a junction box or cavity exists, and whether the goal is a minimal exposed entry or a fully covered connection.

What if the ceiling is steel panel, bac acier, or another non-standard condition?

Then the hole size, connector passage, and cover strategy should be confirmed before installation. In these cases, site-specific drilling quality and finish tolerance become part of the design problem.

Should retailers show more installation context when selling these lamps?

Yes. Retailers and project partners should ideally show or explain the ceiling resolution more clearly than a standard lifestyle image allows. That reduces confusion, manages expectations, and improves perceived professionalism.

5. Support and next steps

Where should we go if we need drawings, files, or project help?

Use the Download Portal for images and project material, the catalogue for the current assortment overview, and the B2B Order System for account-based ordering. For installation or project-specific questions, contact Nordic Tales directly with context and photos.

What is the fastest way to get a useful installation answer?

Send a photo of the actual ceiling condition, note the product involved, and describe whether the goal is a minimal exposed entry or a covered/hidden ceiling connection. That makes it much easier to recommend the correct accessory or building-side solution.
