An Homage to Craftsmanship

The Barocco project was born from a desire to create something with the same richness and depth as products crafted from materials like wood and stone, whose natural variations add a layer of uniqueness. Since our lamps are mouth-blown, we found a way to incorporate this natural variation into our products, forging a meaningful connection between artisan and design—a story often overshadowed by the focus on the designer’s vision.

Each Barocco lamp is purposefully dented by the artisan during the production process. This is where the name “Barocco” originates, as the word originally means “an irregular pearl.”

An intriguing effect emerges when multiple Barocco lamps are hung together, allowing their natural variations to become apparent. The Barocco lamps are ideally suited to interiors that are almost too perfect or rigid, as they harmonize with such settings through a touch of dissonance, creating contrast and enhancing the perceived perfection of the space.

A Study In Natural Variation

With each Barocco lamp intentionally customized through artisan denting, we introduced a new and dynamic layer to the design, celebrating the beauty of handcrafted details. Unlike our previous products—sketched on paper, refined in 3D, and then put into production with no room for variation—the Barocco lamps embrace an organic element, making each piece subtly unique. This approach required us to engage deeply in the production process and carefully define the spectrum of dents that would give Barocco its distinct character.

We set clear boundaries for what constitutes a Barocco lamp: too few or too shallow dents, and it might appear as a product defect rather than intentional craftsmanship; too many or too deep, and the dents could compromise the lamp’s structural integrity or functionality. This delicate balance allows the Barocco lamps to embody both aesthetic and practical qualities. The result is a collection that brings natural variation to the forefront, allowing each piece to speak to the artisan’s skill and the thoughtful design behind it.

Description

A family of unique glass lamps

Every single Bright Barocco is a unique glass lamp. The lamp is a result of a desire to introduce an element of randomness in our design. We believe that randomness and unforeseen events can serve as a case of serendipity.

The touch of hand

For us personally it is also exciting to unwrap a Bright Barocco, since we have set the rules but not decided on the outcome. This is something that enriches our experience of the product. Suddenly the glass appears to have qualities like wood, which also contributes with an element of surprise.  Furthermore the fact that every Bright Barocco is unique, enriches the project with a human factor. The touch of hand in other words.

The Barocco project explores the process of solidification and debates how we perceive solidity and liquidity.

Not much different from an icicle, formed by weather conditions and gravity, the Barocco pendant is created by blowing air and a shift in temperature.

The Bright Barocco lamps seek to preserve the link to their original liquid form, by appearing to be frozen in the middle of the process.

Unique glass lamps

Barocco, which originally meant a pearl of irregular shape, is perfectly imperfect, since it is rich in variation and has the same quality you find in wood, which also varies and contributes with uniqueness to a uniform design.

All Bright Barocco pendants are uniquely customized by a glassblower and come, with a certificate and a personal signature from the glassblower.
